Are you still contemplating cleaning up your household products? Does it seem too overwhelming and time consuming? I was also once in this place! Over the years, I’ve tried MANY products, have had many failures, and have spent money on things that did not work well for us! Because of this, I want to help my readers out with this task! I will HELP you SWAP out your old products for new, CLEAN ones! And since I want the best products for my family, I will update this page as our product usage changes! Please feel free to refer here as needed!

DISCLOSURE: We have a large family, and we go through LOTS of product of many kinds! As a conscientious consumer, I want the BEST products for the most economical cost! So even though I am a Young Living representative, I will only recommend those Young Living products that work for us and that I feel are of good value! This is not to say that some of their other products won’t work out for different people-THEY DO! I hope any company representative would do the same thing, and be an avid user and critic of their offered merchandise!

When putting this together, I realized the magnitude of this undertaking, and to you all who are working through it, continue on! In an effort to make safety easy to find and understand, I will include the Environmental Working Group (EWG) rating linked to my recommended products. EWG strives to determine and rank the safety of product ingredients. Some products are not listed on the Group’s site, however, so questionable ingredients for those certain items must be typed in EWG individually. I will include some of the labels of such products mentioned by me that are not on EWG.

Young Living products, specifically, are not listed on EWG. If you have questions about a certain product, please see my business page for more details, or I am happy to help out!

Sooooo, without further ado…

Let’s begin in the KITCHEN!

Dish soap: Ecos Free and Clear Dish Soap
Dishwasher detergent: Ecover Automatic Dishwasher Tablets (This product works really well, but it has a slightly worse grading than Biokleen) or Biokleen Automatic Dish Powder
Dishwasher rinse: vinegar
Produce Cleaner: vinegar or food-grade hydrogen peroxide

Many of you know from past Blog posts that Young Living takes the cake for me here! I use their Thieves Concentrated Household Cleaner for everything from countertops, to mirrors, to bathrooms, to hard floors and carpets! I believe in the ingredients and find the product to be affordable. It also smells divine, in my opinion!

Dust Spray: For dusting, I use a homemade cleaner as documented HERE. There are NO funky ingredients included, and it is highly cost-effective!

Air freshener: A Young Living Diffuser with essential oils, of course! 😉

Laundry soap: Biokleen Laundry Powder
Laundry rinse: vinegar
Dryer sheets: wool dryer balls with Young Living Essential oils, TIP—>Lemongrass is my favorite! It leaves the most and BEST smell on finished laundry!

Hygiene and Body!

Hand soap: Using a foaming soap pump, add Dr. Wood’s (or any) castile soap, essential oils, and water for an economical and SAFE option. I also use Young Living’s Thieves Foaming Hand Soap in place of castile soap in my pump sometimes.
Shampoo: Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo
Conditioner: Shea Moisture Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Conditioner
Kid’s Shampoo: Dr. Wood’s Baby Mild Castile Soap (or Dr. Bronner’s).

Note: My boys use this. My girl recently switched to the first shampoo and conditioner. Shea Moisture is generally a good company as far as ingredients go, but you will notice in some products they use “Essential Oil Fragrance”, however do not denote what exactly this ingredient is. I switched to products of theirs that do NOT use this ingredient after contacting them asking for clarification, which they denied.
Body wash: Alaffia

Exfoliator: coffee grounds
Lotion: coconut oil OR…For extra dry skin, I use Young Living’s Animal Scents Ointment, as this is very skin supportive! I also use this on my face at night occasionally! I was hesitant to do so at first, as it is a bit greasy, but it is very healing for me in times of troubled skin!
Toothpaste: Earthpaste in cinnamon or lemon, or Dr. Bronner’s paste in anise; CRUNCHY TIP—>Fluoride is not a vitamin, it’s a neurotoxin.
Floss: Young Living Thieves Floss
Mouthwash: Young Living Thieves Mouthwash; this is kind of a splurge. I love the strong and clean feeling this item provides, though!
Hairspray: Andalou Naturals Sunflower and Citrus Perfect Hold Hairspray
Hair Pomade: Badger Hair Pomade
Deodorant: Try milk of magnesia in a reusable roller bottle! I add essential oils for additional smell and support (Try manuka or tea tree.)! Crunchy TIP—>Look for milk of magnesia without sweetener, colors, or hypochlorite (bleach). I get mine off of Amazon. If you have never used a natural deodorant before, you may have some detox symptoms!
Chapstick: Badger Unscented Lip Balm
Sunscreen:  Raw Elements Eco Sunscreen; this also comes in a handy STICK for easy facial application!
Bug Spray:
Cedarcide; check out the graphic below to add extra bug-repelling OOMPH! (CRUNCHY TIP—> This company also makes LAWN SPRAY!!)

bug spray

**I use minimal make-up most of the time, so I can’t advise to those polished looks you see everywhere!**

Face mask: Redmond Bentonite Clay, Crunchy TIP—>You can also use this for things like bug bites and stomach aches!
Face wash: BeautyCounter CounterControl Pore Cleanser. I also really LOVE charcoal soap bars.  I don’t use a certain brand; I just look for a bar with very simple ingredients.
Astringent: Heritage Store Rosewater Toner; I also buy Cocokind Rosewater or just use witch hazel!

Moisturizer: Acacia Organic Rosehip Oil
 Young Living Savvy Primer
Foundation: Crunchi Beautifully Flawless Foundation in Light 02; Young Living Savvy powder foundation did not work for me, but I know others do LOVE it, and the ingredients are 👌!
Blush: Young Living Savvy in Smashing
Setting powder: Crunchi Finishing Powder
Mascara: Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes in black; I really love the performance of this ➡️waterproof⬅️ mascara AND it is easily available to me, however there may be better options! For fun, I sometimes like 100% Pure’s Ultra Lengthening Fruit-Pigmented Mascara in Blueberry! Click here for their ingredients not found on EWG.
Lipstick: Young Living Savvy in It Girl OR any of BeautyCounter’s SUPER thick and long-lasting lipsticks.
Eyebrows: Recently, I learned that you can use glue stick on your eyebrows! Yes, GLUE STICK! And it works. So good. And so much better than powder and markers and pencils, especially for blondes, as a lot of this stuff looks FAKE to me! I use the brand Pritt since the ingredients are pretty great! ⬇️ I contacted them!

I also posted an Instagram photo with my glue stick brows if you are interested – @our_path_less_traveled!

Make-up is such a hard purchase because most of the cleaner options are available online only. It is difficult to determine product color and size on this type of platform. If I can offer assistance as to the products I’ve bought and used, I am happy to do so! In a bind and for convenience, I’ve used semi-clean products more readily accessible to me. They include Pacifica and some Tarte.

I encourage you to look up ALL of your home’s products on EWG! You will be amazed at the junk companies are selling you! Please always check and re-check the ingredients of all your favorite products! Even the CLEAN and SAFE formulations are changed sometimes!

Some of my favorite places to purchase products like the ones I’ve listed above are Young Living, Crunchi, TJ MAXX, Fresh Thyme, our local Cooperative, Vitacost, and Amazon!

If you are an experienced researcher as well, please honestly check my work and/or contact me with better product option suggestions! I welcome productive and helpful criticism, and I am always looking to make improvements at home.

What are your favorite products and where do you purchase them from?!

❤ Jess
